Energy Performance Certificates
If you have sold or rented a house recently you will be familiar with the EPC graph, this is generated following a Domestic Energy Assessment of your home, and it is this assessment that generates an Energy Performance Certificate or EPC.
Extracts from an EPC are shown below. The certificate will show prospective buyers how energy efficient and ECO friendly your home is. It also tries to predict the fuel bills for a typical family living in your home. The EPC report also gives some recommendations on what improvements can be made.
The Energy Efficiency Rating is a measure of the overall efficiency of a home. The higher the rating the more energy efficient the home is and the lower the fuel bills will be
The Environmental Impact Rating is the measure of a home's impact on the environment in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2 emissions). The higher the rating the less impact it has on the environment
Why is the EPC important
We often receive enquires from customers asking us what the Energy Performance Certificate means and if it is relevant. Our answer is Yes - if a house has a low EPC rating you are looking at a cold house with high fuel bills.
This demonstrates that some buyers are considering the information provided in an energy certificate - which is exactly what the government intended.
The good news is that improvements you make to the efficiency of your home will be reflected in the Energy Performance Certificate. A good EPC rating will not sell your home, but it is a useful selling point and it means the investment you've made won't go unnoticed.
Of course, improving the efficiency of your home saves money, makes it more comfortable and it lowers Co2 emissions.
We provide EPCs, EPCs for ECO, Green Deal Assessments and more.
EPCs are required when accessing the ECO scheme and the Green Deal.
