10 ways to make your home more energy efficient

Tell us a bit more about your property:

    Step 1

Contact us - and we'll send you more information about the services we provide. We will also explain what information we need from you to agree a THIAS Home Energy Master Plan for your home.

    Step 2

We can discuss your ideas and priorities with you before arranging a home visit. We will normally take some basic information, for example: the age of your property; the type of construction; how many occupants are living in the home, etc; and what your plans for the future are. We can then determine whether your home would benefit from a full home survey.

    Step 3

We will agree a time and date with you for the survey. This gives you an opportunity to collate any additional information that we may need.

    Step 4

A home energy master plan survey starts when we visit your home. Here we'll carry out a top to bottom review of the property - looking at all aspects of the home to find areas that can be improved, and savings that can be made.

    Step 5

First, we measure your home and collect information on the existing performance of the property. We'll look at what improvements have been made so far and where to focus on for the future. We aim to find the areas of greatest future potential.

    For example:

    • We look at the fabric of your home: our aim is to determine the most appropriate forms of insulation suitable to the construction of the property - based on the age and type of construction.
    • We look at your existing heating system and controls.
    • We look at your existing windows and doors.
    • We also look at the potential for renewable technologies, for example: Solar PV or Solar Thermal; as well as heat pumps and other technologies that may attract funding and incentives, etc.
    • We use the latest technology and in house software when compiling your survey.

    Step 6

We will talk to you about your plans, especially if you are looking to extend and remodel your home - as renovating or extending a home is often the best time to make energy efficiency improvements.

    Step 7

We collect all the required information - and prepare a project / master-plan detailing the most appropriate improvements, including: short term; to do now items; ranging to long term plans - which can be worked into a home renovation plan.

    Step 8

We will discuss our recommendations with you - and then prepare the specifications for the proposed work, enabling contractors to work to a pre agreed plan.

We will send you the report, to ensure that you are happy with our proposals.

    Step 9

We can project manage the work for you - and oversee the entire process - from the planning stage to the completed work - ensuring that both the materials used and the workmanship of the project is to the highest standards.

In conclusion, no two homes are the same - that's why we focus on getting the plan right first time.

Whether you're building, renovating or upgrading - we will talk to you about a complete, integrated, energy-efficiency solution for your home - one that suits your lifestyle and your budget.

The survey and energy report is about creating a clear and decisive project plan which will save money in the long term, ensuring work is carried out to the highest standards, using the most appropriate materials.

Prices - What does a THIAS Home Energy Survey cost?

As a guide we find that there are two options, which would suit most budgets:

Option 1 - THIAS Home Energy Survey

The fully bespoke THIAS Home Energy Survey, including a technical report and specifications, is typically £290 for a normal family home with up to 3 or 4 bedrooms. This is a bespoke service ideally suited for homeowners who may be undertaking a larger project improving and renovating a home, or adding an extension - and need help managing the work.

Larger homes with more than 4 bedrooms will cost more - and usually there would be an extra cost per bedroom or additional living room. The cost would typically be £350-£390.

We can normally give an accurate price based on what you tell us over the phone. If you're planning major build work and renovations then we can look at your plans and price the job accordingly.

Option 2 - THIAS Home Energy Audit & Technical Report

In some cases a whole house survey and report is not required. However, there's still an opportunity to have the property properly assessed for a specific job, and we can provide a survey that is both informative and useful.

Typically the price for a Home Energy Audit & Technical Report would be £150-£200 - this report is ideally suited for a one off project, like EWI (external wall Insulation). The service includes a specification for any proposed work, and enhancing the homes EPC rating.
