Condensation and damp problems?

Condensation is one of the most common causes of dampness in domestic homes and buildings, and is nearly always associated with black mould growth, which if left untreated will cause extensive damage to your home - and can potentially be a serious risk to the health of occupants, especially the young and old.

Obvious signs that indicate you may have a problem are:

  • Black mould growth

    Dampness

  • Stained walls and damp ceilings

  • Brickwork and plaster that is salting

  • Peeling wallpaper especially above skirting boards

  • Musty damp smells and odours

  • Rotten skirting boards and peeling paint

  • Unsightly black mould (Aspergillus niger)

Finding a long term solution starts with a survey and the right diagnosis

We provide help and advice, professional reports and genuine repair solutions for all types of homes that are suffering from rising or penetrating damp, condensation and mould problems.

We can provide help and advice - and recommend the most appropriate solutions.

Why you have a damp and
condensation problem

No two homes are the same and the following issues can have an effect on condensation and mould:

  • The size of your home
  • The age and type of construction materials used
  • The number of occupants in the home
  • The many changes that have been made to a typical home over the years

The problem arises because of high relative humidity, a lack of natural ventilation and, in most cases, cold external walls and surfaces. It is possible to reduce humidity by regulating activities like drying clothes indoors and opening windows. In most cases better ventilation is the solution.

Today, many older homes are used in ways that were never anticipated when they were built. We create and trap more moist air in our homes by: replacing draughty wooden windows with modern double glazing; replacing coal fires with central heating; taking more baths and showers; and using appliances such as tumble driers.

What action to take

Homes can suffer dampness for a number of reasons. This can be down to one or more defects in your property: rising or penetrating damp or so called 'life-style' issues. Often it is a combination of factors. To effectively diagnose a damp and condensation problem we need to understand how your home is used and identify problem areas. By pinpointing the underlying causes we can put in place an effective course of action.

Our 'Building Defect & Damp Survey' is jargon free

Damp and condensation report

Our healthy homes survey is a jargon free report that explains what the problem are and what the priorities and options are.

Our survey will help you deal with the problems permanently and in a cost effective way.

Please note: A whole house approach looking at all aspects of dampness would normally be required when major renovation work is required, or when purchasing a home that has some clear issues with damp or other building defects.
